2019 is looking like a pretty phenomenal year.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS: Joker, Captain Marvel, It: Chapter 2, Dark Phoenix, Dumbo, Aladdin, Frozen II
#5: FAR FROM HOME | Tom Holland has managed to be a stand-out character in both Infinity War and Civil War, and he most certainly held his own in his first solo film Homecoming, along with a charming supporting cast. I can't wait to see Peter Parker's dynamic between his peers following the events of Infinity War and Endgame, as well as to witness the introduction of Mysterio, played by the marvellous Jake Gyllenhaal.
#4: TOY STORY 4 | Initially I wasn't particularly excited for Toy Story 4, since I felt the story came to a close so perfectly in Toy Story 3. However, based on what people like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have said about it; that it's 'a moment in history', that it's one of the most powerful things they've ever read/performed... It's impossible not to lose my mind with excitement.
#3: STAR WARS: EPISODE IX | The Last Jedi was quite under-whelming for me and I was concerned for a while that Star Wars had temporarily fallen off the rails, with Solo coming 6 months afterwards. But, after 18 months, and a return to form with The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams, I am hoping that Star Wars returns to what it was a few years ago for its final entry, because it has all the tools to do so.
#2: THE LION KING | This is no small feat. Using the same methods as The Jungle Book, Jon Favreau attempts to pull off a photo-realistic remake of, arguably, the most beloved animated film of all time, and bring it to a new generation. With an absolutely star-studded voice cast and inevitably jaw-dropping visuals, The Lion King is likely going to be a momentous occasion in this year of film.
#1: ENDGAME | After 11 years, 21 films and the monumental event that was Infinity War, Endgame is truly the final chapter of the MCU thus far, with an argument to be made that this is the most anticipated film of all time.
