Florence Pugh Added To Black Widow Solo Film

News recently broke that the cast for the long-time-coming Black Widow solo film has finally gone beyond the inevitable Scarlett Johansson, adding breakout star, Fighting With My Family's Florence Pugh to the project.
I think the most exciting thing about this news is that, even though there has been a director attached for quite some time, the Black Widow solo film - something millions (including Scarlett Johansson) have been wanting for the better part of a decade - is truly set in motion, likely capitalising off of the success of the wildly successful Captain Marvel.

I believe that this casting choice - bearing in mind I have not seen Fighting With My Family and am therefore unaware of Pugh's acting ability - is a good one, because there is potential that she could be a small draw to the project as a result of the positive reception of Fighting With My Family - a film which she was the centre of - but she is not a big enough name or presence to overshadow Johansson herself (currently the highest paid actress in the world). No information about Pugh's role has been revealed, but it seems very likely that she will be playing a key supporting role.

A Black Widow solo film is something I have been wanting for several years, so it's so gratifying that some true progress is being made, and that it will likely be coming to our screens in 2020. I've never understood why it has taken so long because Scarlett Johansson is the most successful actress right now, and with smaller, more abstract action films such as Lucy pulling in almost $500million worldwide - a film which was entirely marketed around her - she has made it clear that she is a major box-office draw, and with the Black Widow title and the association with Marvel, the success of Black Widow is an absolute guarantee. I am very excited for this year's D23 Expo where it is looking like we are going to get a real idea of what Marvel: Phase Four is going to entail.
