IT's back.
With the monumental success of 2017's It becoming the highest grossing horror film ever made, it was absolutely inevitable that we would get the second half of Stephen King's dense horror masterpiece adapted to the big screen - in fact, it was so inevitable that this was confirmed even before the release of the monstrous horror hit, and I, especially after this trailer, cannot wait to see what is next.
I didn't adore the first It much like most others, but I think we can all agree that the ensemble cast did a brilliant job and Skarsgard's Pennywise is an instant classic in regards to horror film villains. Objectively speaking, I have immense respect for everyone involved in the first film in their ability to create something instantly iconic, and again, after seeing this trailer, I am 90% sure that the It franchise will be even more iconic once the world has seen this sequel.
This trailer is confident. It is rare for a trailer to open with a scene as long as this one, and letting this scene breathe within a piece of promotional material shows a tremendous amount of belief in what they have, and it really works - it is genuinely bone-chilling, and a perfect introduction to the more psychologically sinister world which we're about to enter with a grown-up Losers' Club. As for the rest of the trailer, it invigorated me with an excitement that I never thought I had for this franchise, and I am now eagerly anticipating my return to the It universe, especially with the (semi)star-studded cast of Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader to name a few. The music is horrifically epic and the use of it is, again, confident - and progressively more terrifying as we finally see Pennywise's face emerge from the shadows as he utters 'Hello' with that nightmarishly delighted grin.
Side-note: I love how the balloon motif is becoming a fully-fledged, franchise-defining symbol.
