J-Law is returning. In a big, small way.
It was recently reported that Jennifer Lawrence will be returning to the screen after her sabbatical to star in an untitled, A24-distributed drama. It is directed by acclaimed stage director, but first-time film director, Lila Neugebauer. The screenplay is also written by first-timer Elizabeth Sanders.
Not much has been revealed about the plot thus far, but what we do know is that Lawrence will be playing a 'US soldier who suffers a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan and struggles to recover back home.' I think this is an exciting role for Lawrence, and what is so incredibly promising about this film is that Jennifer Lawrence - either - already has immense trust in the director, or the screenplay resonated with her so much that she would do the film and play the role, regardless of who was attached. What's exciting is that it seems like it is both.
In regards to the studio, A24 has become so reliable with their low-budget, independent films, and the likelihood is that I will watch and support any film they release. The Spectacular Now, Hereditary, Lady Bird, Moonlight, Good Time, Under The Skin, and so many more are strong indications that their content will be of quality, and it is great to see that Jennifer Lawrence is returning to her indie roots which is what garnered her all of the initial acclaim in the first place.
This untitled project is scheduled to begin production in New Orleans this June, and is expected to be released in 2020 - it is very likely that it will debut at film festivals and eventually be released wide during awards season. I am looking forward for Jennifer Lawrence to be back in the public consciousness, and I can't wait for another raw and brilliant performance.
