Endgame 2nd Weekend Box Office

Did Endgame's astronomical opening just result in a detrimental 2nd weekend?

Weekend Box Office: 3rd May-5th May 2019
  1. Avengers: Endgame - $147.4million
  2. The Intruder - $10.9million
  3. Long Shot - $9.7million
  4. Uglydolls - $8.6million
  5. Captain Marvel - $2.5million
One unexpected yet completely obvious record that Avengers: Endgame broke this weekend was the biggest 2nd weekend drop of all time at $210million. What's funny about this record is that it would have been literally impossible for this record to be broken by any other film ever made, with the exception of Infinity War, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi... Even if these films had this huge of a drop, their 2nd weekends would've been all under $40million, and here is Endgame with a second weekend which 90% of films don't even make in their opening.

To put it in perspective, Avengers: Endgame only made $8million or so less than Captain Marvel's first weekend, even when Captain Marvel has been among the most successful films of the past few years. A drop of 58% for Endgame's second weekend is actually slightly bigger than I expected because so many people immediately had the instinct to watch the film again, but this takes nothing away from the unprecedented success this film is enjoying... and deserving.

With regard to whether Endgame will catch Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time, I am slightly less sure than I was, but when it all comes down to it, I still think that Endgame will claim the throne. In 1.6 weeks, Endgame has made $200million more than what its direct predecessor, Infinity War, made in 20 weeks, with its gross of $2.23billion... its almost insanity. Looking forwards, again, in just 1.6 weeks, Endgame has made just $500million less than what Avatar made in 34 weeks. Having already surpassed the seemingly untouchable Titanic, I think we have a new King of the Box Office on our hands. In the words of Thanos, it is (almost) inevitable. ;)
